THE Highland News Group’s 10 Years Younger winner has hit the ground running with her quest to be transformed.

Anita Crant has thrown herself into training at Fit4Less, one of the sponsors of the contest, and the Raigmore nurse has set herself the challenge of losing three stones before the big reveal in August.

And whilst the 44-year-old mum of two admits the first few sessions with Stuart Main, one of the Harbour Road gym’s personal trainers, left her feeling dizzy and sick, she is now enjoying her sessions and can’t wait to feel the burn.

Anita said: "I have not been to the gym in a long time and my fitness levels are at the lowest they have ever been, so I am starting from scratch.

"The first couple of times I went I was feeling sick and dizzy, but after just four sessions, I was feeling the difference. I can’t believe how quickly you can feel the benefits."

Anita is being put through her paces by Stuart who has created a personal plan for her involving a mixture of cardiovascular exercise and weights.

Anita said: "Anyone starting out for the first time should get a personal trainer. Stuart has been great and he really pushes me. It make such a difference having him there. If I had been on my own when I first went and started feeling dizzy and sick, I would have given up, but he encouraged me to keep going."

She added: "I definitely want to lose weight. My ideal weight would be about 10-and-a-half stone, which gives me about three to lose, but I am determined I will do it.

"Going to the gym has made me feel better on a day-to-day basis too. I am not so lethargic. At the moment I am seeing Stuart three times a week, but I do plan to start going in between our sessions too. I am really enjoying it."

Stuart said he is pleased with Anita’s progress so far and explained as well as her training program he also plans to throw in a few extra activities too.

"Anita is doing great – she is really determined and she is keen to make the most of this opportunity. She has said herself that she has noticed a difference and at work has started taking the stairs instead of the lift and can now manage a few flights without keeling over at the top.

"We have done a mixture of exercises using the equipment such as the treadmills, bikes and free weights, but I am going to do some body pump and get Anita using kettle bells which is an old Russian technique."

Anita of Fairfield Road, Inverness, is undergoing a gruelling transformation over the next few weeks. She was chosen from dozens of entries sent in for the £8,000 contest by the sponsors Rosedene House, Fit4Less and Eden Dental Clinic.

Anita will also be given a whole new wardrobe of clothes from Debenhams and will have a consultation with Specsavers.

Anita’s vital statistics

Weight – 13 stone 9oz

Body Fat percentage – 40.1 per cent. Above average

Blood Pressure – 131 over 85

Peak Flow which measures lung function – 420. The average would be 400.

Resting Heart Rate – 67

Flexibility – 24

STUART said: "Anita’s body fat percentage is a little high. For her age and weight it should be between 23 and 34.

"Her blood pressure was okay and her lung function was not too bad. We also measured Anita’s body’s ability to transfer oxygen to the blood and muscles and her score was 28.2 which is below average.

"All of these statistics will change over the course of this transformation and by the end we should see a big difference in Anita."
