THE focus for our 10 Years Younger competition winner this week is spectacles.

As part of Anita Crant's amazing 12-week prize she was treated to a complementary consultation with an optometrist from the city's Specsavers store.

And now the Raigmore Hospital nurse can see clearly again after it was discovered she needed reading glasses, which she has receieved as part of her prize.

Anita, who lives in Fairfield Road told the Highland News: "I thought I might have needed some help with glasses, but to be honest I was just putting it to the back of my mind. I didn't want to admit to myself that I might need reading glasses as it is a sign that I am getting older.

"However, I had noticed that occasionally things were blurry, especially when trying to read."

Forty-four-year-old Anita added: "Initially when the optometrist confirmed my suspicions, I thought 'urghh'. But then she showed me the range of glasses and that kind of softened the blow. I actually got quite excited. I have chosen a pair from the Gok Wan range and they are quite vintage inspired and I like that look. It was also buy one pair get one free so that was a bonus too."

Suzie Macpherson, the optometrist with Specsavers who tested Anita's eyes said: "Anita knew herself that she was starting to find her reading was getting worse. She was having to hold her books further away and we confirmed that she needed first time reading glasses. Her distance vision is almost perfect, but the reading element is a separate thing altogether."

As well as checking Anita's vision. Suzie also looked at the health of her eyes: "Her eyes are perfectly healthy so she doesn't need to worry about that. We went through a range of routine tests and other than needing the glasses, her eyes are great."

Anita, who works in the dermatology unit at Raigmore, is being put through her paces by a host of beauty industry experts from Rosedene House, dental specialists at the Eden Dental Clinic and she is getting in tip top condition with the help of a personal trainer from Fit4Less.
