NORMALLY when people go to the dentist, they grimace at just the thought of it.

But for Anita Crant, our 10 Years Younger competition winner, her first consultation with the dentist has left her with a huge grin.

The 44-year-old nurse is going to be treated to a new smile, courtesy of the Eden Dental Clinic, one of the competition's sponsors.

Anita, who lives in Fairfield Road, Inverness, is no stranger to dental works and paid out hundreds of pounds to have work on her top teeth done.

But the mother-of-two was not happy that her bottom teeth didn't match but now, thanks to 10 Years Younger, by the end of the 12-week transformation she will be left with a dream smile.

Anita said she was really excited about what lay in store for her teeth.

She told the Highland News Group: "The consultation with Eden Dental Clinic was great. It was actually really good fun - not many people can say that when they visit the dentist.

"I am most pleased that my bottom teeth are going to match my top.

"I had work done to my top and they look great, but the bottom ones now look out of place and it's not nice."

She added: "I have an infection which is going to get treated first. The dentist referred me for a 360 degree X-ray at the hospital and discovered that there is an infection. He said it could have been there for a long time.

"On top of that, I am gong to get veneers along the bottom, which will be great. I just thought that I would have to live with my teeth looking different. I am ecstatic though that they will now look the same. I can't believe my luck."

Ken Provan, principal dentist with the clinic on Bishops Road in Inverness, said: "Anita has had extensive dental work completed in the past on her top teeth, but her bottom teeth need some attention now. Her lower teeth are worn and discoloured and she is unhappy with that.

"We are going to change the shape and shade of her lower teeth with crowns and veneers and it will mean she will be able to smile with confidence.

"Before we do that, though, we need to get an infection treated that she has in one of her front lower teeth. We need to get rid of this before we can carry out the other work."

Over the next few weeks, Anita, who works in the dermatology unit at Raigmore Hospital, is being put through her paces by a host of beauty industry experts, dental specialists and fitness instructors for this makeover.

As well as the dental treatment, Anita is under the care of Fit4Less on Harbour Road which is helping her to get in shape and lose weight and she is being treated to a host of beauty treatments from newly opened Rosedene House in Drummond Crescent.
