7 beach holidays, and why to book them

ONE of the great things about living in Britain is the fact that we are in close proximity to a wide array of destinations across Europe.

Here are seven great destinations where you can find family holidays from OnTheBeach.

OnTheBeach is a site that will not only connect you to great deals for hotels, flights and package holidays but also provide you with an overall picture of what you can expect to find in several coastal destinations; including cultural activities, nightlife suggestions, family-friendly attractions and more.

European destinations:

1. Algarve, Portugal

In the heart of southern Portugal, you’ll find a wide variety of beach holiday options. Aside from being able to get your tan going at some of the region’s finest golden sand beaches, you will also be able to indulge in everything from visiting nearby fishing villages and mountains, to enjoying the excellent nightlife. Two of the best beaches in this region that you will simply have to visit during your time in the Algarve are Praia da Luz and Praia da Rocha.

2. Majorca, Spain

This island in the Balearic region has been a top destination for British tourists in past summers and continues to attract crowds each year. This is a particularly good destination for families. This is because, as well beautiful beaches, there are a wide variety of attractions nearby that the kids can enjoy, including several Aqua Parks spread throughout the Island and the chance to go to Auto Safari and MarineLand to see animal friends.

3. Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Lanzarote holidays are a popular choice all year round as the region receives sunshine throughout the year. You can enjoy both white and black sand beaches, as well as visit local attractions like the Rancho Texas Park (a Western Theme Park) and indulge in the beautiful surroundings found at Guinate Tropical Park.

4. Crete, Greece

The largest of the Greek Islands, this is a great place to visit with older children in their pre-teen or teenage years. While you will get the chance to experience all that Crete has to offer, you will also get the chance to do as the Greeks do and Island hop to nearby destinations such as Spinalonga, Dia, and Santorini. Visit Crete and you’ll be able to sit on fabulous Mediterranean Beaches, as well as hike through the mountains.

Further afield:

5. Dubai

Dubai will certainly take you a bit longer to get to, with around a seven-hour direct flight from London available. It is, however, certain that you will find a huge host of family friendly activities here. This is a location that is best to visit from November to February as desert temperatures rise into the high 30 and even 40 degrees C in the summer months. Enjoy beaches like Jumierah Park and keep the kids entertained further by visiting places like the Dubai Mall’s SEGA Republic, The Dubai Aquarium, and Ski Dubai in the Emirates Mall.

6. Dominican Republic

Weather in this Caribbean destination is hot all year round with temperatures rarely falling below 25 degrees C. Aside from getting the chance to explore some of the region’s most beautiful beaches and enjoy the splendor of the natural landscape, you can escape and have some grown up fun by letting yourself explore a few of the 20 golf courses found on the island. You will also get to explore a rich history and culture by visiting sites such as the village of Jarabacoa, Alcazar de Colon Palace, and indoor attractions such as the Museum of History.

7. Goa, India

Located on the West Coast of India, this is a great place to take the family, especially if you are travelling with kids who are in their teens and have an interest in exploring new cultures. The best time to visit Goa (and avoid Monsoon season) is from October through to May. Goa is much more than just breath-taking beaches: you will also get the chance to visit the Anjuna Flea Market, Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, and of course, get the chance to see the region’s unique history simply by walking around and observing its breathtaking architecture.

Overall, whether you’re looking to book a holiday in Europe for the near future or if you’re planning to have your vacation further afield after the summer passes, these are just a few of the amazing places that you can find by using OnTheBeach.
