Package tours: What to expect, where to go and when

IT is no secret that we are suffering from one of the worst recessions that we have seen for a number of decades, with many households across the UK affected by diminished incomes or even unemployment.

This means that saving money wherever possible is extremely important, which is why cheap package tours to the Balearics are a great option.

Even though money is tight, it does not mean that you and your family have to miss out on the nice things in life, like holidays. It just means that you have to be a little more diligent when you are searching for them. Package holidays can be the ideal way to get a great holiday on a tight budget and there are a number of locations for you to choose from, including the Balearics.

The Balearics are a small group of islands off the east coast of Spain. The most popular locations to visit are Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca. These three islands have some excellent tourist locations that can provide even the most discerning traveller with an enjoyable holiday.

Many people are a little put off by package holidays as they feel that the quality of the flights and accommodation will not be up to the standard they are looking for. However, although some package tours do have low quality accommodation, this is certainly not true of all of them.

When you are seeking a package holiday there are a number of factors that you will need to take into consideration. Firstly, you will need to have a firm budget set in place. This not only prevents you from overspending on your trip, but it will also help you to reduce your search parameters and save you valuable time.

You will also need to consider what kind of holiday it is that you and your family are looking for. For example, are you after a city break, a beach holiday or an adventure holiday? This will obviously have a large bearing on the location that you opt for. Fortunately, most of the Balearic Islands have a location to suit every type of holiday genre.

When you are booking a package holiday you need to be absolutely sure what is included within the price that you are paying. Many package tours will include food, drink, transfers and even some sightseeing tours. Make sure that you are picking one that offers you the best value for money; this will mean doing quite a lot of research but it will be well worth it when you find the right option.

Mallorca has some fantastic destinations for you to choose from. The capital, Palma, is a stunning and historical city that is perfect for a long weekend break. The city has some delightful hotels and many of them are extremely good value, especially when they are booked as part of a package.

If you can, try and get a property that is either in the old town or within a close proximity to the harbour. This is where you will find most of the best bars and restaurants the city has to offer, and being close to them will allow you to walk and save money on taxis or public transport.

If you are looking for a beach holiday then Ibiza could well be the best location for your trip. There are a number of beach resorts on the island including Ses Salines beach, Cala Llonga Cove and Santa Eularia Beach; these are all stunning locations.

Most of the package tours to Ibiza and the other Balearic Islands should include flights, transfers and some food; you will normally be given the option of half board or all inclusive. Half board will include two meals per day and an all inclusive package will include all of your food and drink and is usually better value, especially if you intend on spending the majority of your time in the resort.

The weather in the Balearics is pretty similar to that of Spain, so the best time to travel is between March and October. The area does get extremely hot between June and September, so if you are not too keen on extreme heat it is best to try and avoid these months. Also, the summer months, particularly July and August, are the most expensive times to travel because of the school holidays, so if you are seeking a cheap price then it is best to travel earlier or later in the year.
