Washing machine problems - Do you dare to repair?

SO many households have electrical appliances nowadays that a cottage industry has sprung up in repairing them. But these can be very expensive and frustrating.

If you’re having problems with your washing machine therefore, instead of calling a professional washing machine repairs person, consider trying to repair your washing machine yourself. So many of the problems with washing machines are easy to find and fix, and you should feel confident that you can repair them yourselves even if you have no expertise

First things first when starting your Washing Machine Repair:

The first thing to ensure before repairing a washing machine - or indeed any other electric appliance, is that it is unplugged. People often forget to do this, but it can be very dangerous, especially if you are fixing an electric carving knife. It doesn’t take long to do this, but can be the difference between fixing the washing machine and causing much more damage and running up an even bigger bill.

Where should you buy your manufacturer parts?

You also need to consider how much you are willing to pay if a part is broken... Often, if you call the manufacturer direct the parts may be very expensive because there could be a big mark up. You may wish to search online for the cheapest supplier, or indeed call up lots of dealers to compare prices. The difference could be up to hundreds of pounds, so take you time and think carefully how much you can afford to pay for your Hotpoint Washing Machine repairs, for example. This will help you save loads of money later on, and you’ll be thankful you took the time.

Water on the floor?

If you see a puddle underneath the washing machine, then a pipe has broken or it has sprung a leak. If the hose or pipe is broken then this should be fairly easy to fix and will not cost too much money. You should be able to pick up a new hose in your local shop fro a few pounds, and you can repair it yourself. Of course, if you don’t feel confident then make sure you get an expert to help you. The last thing you want is to make the leak bigger and cause a problem you’re your flooring that means even more expense.

Torn clothes?

You may find that your washing machine is tearing your clothes or causing rips and shreds. If this is happening then your tub might be the cause. Unlike new models which are generally made of plastic, many older models have metal tubs and these can rust or shard, causing sharp edges in the drum which can catch on your clothes. This is also true of washer dryers, and could cause the need for washer dryer repairs.

However, the fix for this can be simple and involve just using some sandpaper to rub the shard down if it is small. However, if it is a large shard then you may need a new drum and this can be expensive.

Remember, many faults and problems are very simple to repair and should not involve a large expense. Just have confidence, and go for it. You never know what you are capable of doing.
