A SEARCH for a missing Ross-shire man has ended in tragedy with the discovery of a body.
David Mackay (21) from Alness was returning from a dance in Tain when he disappeared in the early hours of Saturday.
Mr Mackay had last been seen outisde the Duthac Centre in Tain around 1.15am.
A major search was sparked involving RAF and Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Teams, Coastguards and an RAF helicopter as well as a large number of local people.
But at around 2.22pm on Sunday, a body was located by the crew of a helicopter of the Highland Air Search charity on the shoreline north west of the Glenmorangie Distillery near Tain.
A police spokesman said: "Following the search for a missing Alness man, a body has been reovered in the Tain area and all searches have been stood down.
"His name is not being released until formal identification has taken place and next of kin have been advised."
Police thanked all those who had assisted in the search.
