POLICE have named a man who died after becoming ill near the summit of a Wester Ross peak.

Robert Tasker (55) from Dundee, had been walking with a family member and a friend in the Fannichs range, south of Ullapool, when he became unwell around 11.45am on Saturday.

Mr Tasker had been near the summit of 974-metre Meall nan Peitherin when the incident happened.

Police were made aware of a medical alert by one of the walking group on the hill, prompting a mountain rescue involving Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team.

Members of the MRT located the party, but the casualty was found to have died from an apparent medical condition.

Police said a report would be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal at Dingwall.
