A ROSS-SHIRE father-of-six and charity fundraiser who died suddenly on holiday in Spain will be laid to rest on Monday.

Gordon Macrae (55), of Morangie Road, Tain, took ill in his hotel room in Barcelona on July 9.

Mr Macrae had spent the past year on a major drive to raise £10,000 for the Highland Hospice where his wife Nicky (53) died from cancer in 2010, less than a month after being diagnosed.

Mr Macrae, who found out he had a heart condition after his wife died, was determined to raise money for the hospice because of the dedicated care Mrs Macrae received there.

His children and foster children, Will, Rachael, Nadia, John, Samantha and Leona, all helped him with various fundraising ventures to reach his target.

The Highland Council social worker had been on a 10-day break in Spain with a friend when he became unwell. Despite medics being on the scene within minutes, Mr Macrae could not be saved.

The funeral will be held in Tain Parish Church on Monday (July 30) at 1pm, and thereafter to Logie Easter Cemetery.

Donations, if so desired, may be given at the service for the Highland Hospice.
