ROSS County conceded a late goal as they were held 1-1 at Raith Rovers in Saturday’s Irn Bru Division One tussle at Starks Park.
Steven Craig’s goal seemed like being enough for the Staggies to head north with their third win of the season against the Rovers until on-loan Hearts kid Jamie Walker struck in the final minute to earn a share of the spoils.
Despite the disappointment of not holding on for the win against the impressive Fifers at the weekend, it takes County’s unbeaten league run to 18 successive fixtures.
The good news for the Dingwall club, however, was that chasing duo Falkirk and Dundee drew against Morton and Hamilton Accies respectively, which means County remain five points clear at the top of the table, with two games in hand.
County, who host Ayr United on the league on Saturday amid their hectic two-matches per week schedule, welcome St Mirren to Victoria Park on Tuesday night for their William Hill Scottish Cup fifth round replay.
A decent first half saw the hosts on top on Saturday and Willie Dyer and John Baird went close to opening the scoring and Richard Britain and Mark Corcoran has efforts finishing wide for the Staggies.
However, former Aberdeen striker Craig edged County in front on 53 minutes when he drilled the ball past keeper David McGurn after a cut-back from Corcoran, who had tormented St Mirren in Paisley the week before.
Grant Munro twice saved County when Allan Walker almost levelled for Raith as they piled on the pressure.
That equaliser did arrive, though, on 89 minutes when sub Jamie Walker played a one-two with Brian Graham before sending the ball beyond goalkeeper Michael Fraser.
Rovers almost sealed a sensational win in stoppage time, but Fraser tipped a Baird free-kick over the crossbar.
