MARTIN Laird should be a major contender for the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open as the country seeks its first "home" winner since Colin Montgomerie 13 years ago.


A CRACKING right-hand punch from proud Highland heavyweight Gary Cornish saw him win his seventh professional fight and dazzle promoter Frank Maloney and boss Tommy Gilmour at the same time. The 25-year-old's second round knockout victory against previously unbeaten Hungarian Laszlo Peczeli at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness on Friday and fans on their feet.
