A GRIEVING family have been speaking about the loss of their "wonderful wee boy" who died in a house fire in Easter Ross.

The body of six-year-old Aiden James Owens was recovered from his home at Cromarty Drive, Milton, near Invergordon, yesterday evening.

The boy’s mother Laura and sister Chloe leapt from an upstairs window to escape the fierce blaze which broke out in the end terraced property in the early hours of Sunday morning.

They were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment to injuries including smoke inhalation.

Aiden’s grandmother released a statement in which she said: "Aiden was a wonderful wee boy who was very special to us all and who was loved by everyone that knew him."

More than 20 firefighters battled to control the fire which started around 2.27am.

The house was well ablaze when firefighters attended the scene at 2.42am.

Firefighters were unable to access the burning building due to the severity of the fire and the structural damage.

A police spokesman said enquiries into the cause of the fire were continuing.
