A ROSS-SHIRE youth pipe band has come up with a unique way to raise funds - selling teddies made from its very own tartan.

The Ross and Cromarty Pipes and Drums School has teamed up with Invergordon craftswoman Hazel Cameron to produce a limited edition of 100 teddies fashioned from the tartan which is worn excusively by band members. Called Brogan bears, a name picked by young band drummer Bronwyn Godley from Evanton, the teddies are all hand made by Hazel Cameron under her Farraline Label and now on sale for Christmas 2007. Each comes with a scroll telling Brogan's story and is numbered and authenticated by The Ross and Cromarty Pipes and Drums School. Selling at £60 each, it is hoped that Brogan will prove popular and help boost funds for the highly successful pipe band which now has 35 members aged between 12 and 17. Band manager Paul Turner explained: "I know Hazel and one day I was in her shop, The Pier Shop in Invergordon, and I happened to notice she had teddy bears in the shop and I suggested to her that they would look good in our own band tartan. Hazel made a demo of Brogan and then I came up with the idea to produce a limited edition. We are delighted with the result because they are really well made. " To snap up a Brogan bear, order from: The Ross and Cromarty Pipes and Drums School, 7 East Newfield Park, Alness, IV17 0WZ, enclosing a cheque for £60 plus £3.50 p&p, or by phoning Paul on 0780 339 8426. Cheques should be made payable to The Ross and Cromarty Pipes & Drums School. |
