Ross County club captain Jack Baldwin believes three points against Hearts were well-deserved after efforts across recent weeks.

The Staggies battled to draws against St Mirren and Hibernian in Dingwall since their last victory against Livingston, having led each of those games at half time before conceding the advantage.

It has certainly been a show of resilience under Don Cowie, and now only three teams can say they are in better form than County across the Premiership.

Those performances have not always resulted in three points, though, so victory against Hearts should prove to be a significant boost.

Again going into half time with a lead, County this time managed to score again to double their advantage.

Baldwin, then, was left in no doubt about the potential impact it could have on their fight to avoid relegation.

“It’s massive for us all,” he stressed.

“Going in ahead – we’ve been in that position on a few occasions at home recently. We obviously spoke about it after the Hibs game, and everybody voiced their opinion.

“You can sometimes look too deeply into those things, they become a negative and you end up just thinking about the downside.

“It’s a mentality thing – we came out for the second half and wanted to be on the front foot. As hard as it is, you can’t try to protect the win. You have to continue what you’ve been doing to get in that position in the first place.

“When the gaffer was speaking he was talking about visualising 5pm and how good it would feel to come in with a win.

“Recently we haven’t managed to stick it out, but to beat Hearts at any time of the season is huge for us.

“To do it in the current position we’re in, and knowing how important every game is, it’s massive.

“I’m delighted for everyone involved in the win today. We needed that and I think we deserved that for how hard we’ve been working.”
