A ROSS-SHIRE distillery with a 180-year history toasted International Scotch Day by further boosting its record-breaking visitor numbers.


Glen Ord in Muir of Ord, producer of the Singleton malt, saw visitor numbers surge 28 per cent over the last year.

Numbers have doubled since 2011. A total of 34,774 people came through the doors of the distillery’s acclaimed visitor centre last year.

To celebrate the landmark Scotch Day, Glen ord threw open its doors for a series of free tours much to the delight of visitors from near and far. Site manager Alastair Orr said: “It went really well. There was quite a mix of folk including some locally who had heard of the day. We were certainly kept busy.”

VisitScotland chief executive Malcolm Roughead said: ““Whisky is one of Scotland’s most valuable commodities with people from all over the world coming to experience an authentic Scottish dram.”
