Snow drifts shut Easter Ross roads as police issue advice to motorists

TREACHEROUS conditions and drifting snow are affecting a swathe of Easter Ross with police advising motoritsts not to travel in the worst-hit areas.

 

Police are dealing with incidents on the B9175 Arabella level crossing with drifting also badly affecting Nigg, Fearn, Balintore, Portmahomack, Tain and Edderton.

Police "strongly advise" motorists avoid travel in affected areas .

An amber weather warning remains in place for most of the Highlands.

The Journal understands tractors have been deployed to help clear roads and dig out a number of stranded motorists.

Meanwhile thousands of Highland schoolchildren will again stay at home today with scores of schools closed due to the bad weather.

These include Alness Academy, Invergordon Academy and Ullapool High School.

Primary schools across Easter Ross are also badly hit
